Robert J. Patchen Sr. Was born February 19, 1952 in Montour Falls, NY, the son of the late Arthur and Pauline (DePew) Patchen, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, April 8, 2016 after fighting a courageous battle with bladder cancer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Janette (Rock) Patchen; beloved sons: Robert J. (Mindy King) Patchen Jr., Jason Patchen; adored grandchildren: Alyssa Marie Patchen, Robert J. Patchen III, and Mallory Amber Patchen, Trevor King; siblings: Jerry (Linda) Patchen, Shirley (Steve) Burlew, Chuck (Donna) Patchen and Zandra Brewer; along with several nieces, nephews, many friends and his special friends, Joe and Corky. Robert was proud of being an Eagle Scout. He retired from Conrail after 20 years of dedicated service as a signalman. He was a Veteran of the US Army, proudly serving his country. For several years he was Commander of the American Legion Bentley Post # 443 Elmira and from 2010-2011 was the Chemung County Commander of the American Legion. Robert absolutely loved racing and raced for many years at the Chemung Speedrome. He was also a diehard NASCAR fan. Bob enjoyed playing golf and was an all around handy man. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services celebrating his life will follow the visitation at 7 PM. Pastor Arthur "Skip" Reed will officiate. Interment will take place in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the James P. Wilmont Cancer Center c/o Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642 in his memory. Robert's guestbook may be signed in obituaries at www.olthof.com.
