Type Obit HereROOT, Rose MarieTown of Southport ResidentWas born July 9, 1929 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Sherlowski) Mechalke, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital at the age of 78. Rose Marie was united in holy matrimony to Arthur J. Root on June 25, 1949 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Elmira. They have enjoyed 58 wonderful years of life and love together. She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur; beloved daughters, Patrice Shaw of Fall River, MA; Constance Foster of Somerset, MA; adored granddaughter, Robyn Foster of Somerset, MA; sister-in-laws, Carol Mechalke of Elmira, NY; Jean Root of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Rose Marie worked along side of her husband at their business, Di Clen (Diamond Cleaners) where she was the Vice President/Secretary. She was affiliated in her earlier years with St. Marys Church and was a Girl Scouts Troop Leader as well. She loved to travel, enjoyed gardening, planting her flowers, especially roses. Rose Marie spent 40 summers at Keuka Lake at the familys home away from home. She was an avid nature and wildlife lover, especially watching birds and naming the deer that frequented their property. Through the years Rose Marie and Arthur made many wonderful life-long friends. They belonged to a card club with their friends and played at least once a week for 50 + years. Rose Marie enjoyed her involvement with the Barkers girls club sine the 1940s. All will dearly miss her. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904 on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services honoring her life will be held there at the conclusion of the visitation. (7 PM) The Reverend Jeff Tunicliff will celebrate Rose Maries service.
