Russell B. â??Russ�? Henderson

January 15, 1925 — March 4, 2005

Age 80 of Pine City, NY, passed away very unexpectedly Friday, March 4, 2005. He was born January 15, 1925 in Spencer, NY, son of Frances and Bruce R. Henderson. Russ?s early years were spent living in Van Etten, where he graduated from Van Etten Central School in 1943. He served in the United States Air Force during WW II. He has lived in the Town of Southport for over 50 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte G. Henderson on October 21, 1997. Surviving Russell is his wife, Arlene Messner Henderson of Pine City; sister, Virginia Henderson of Elmira; stepchildren, Harford (Reenie) Overton of Elmira Heights; Elizabeth Overton (Philip Brewer) of Fredericksburg, PA; Daniel (Sue) Overton of Hamburg, PA; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Russell was a devoted husband. He retired from Bendix and Facet after 30 years, and worked part-time for the Chemung County Solid Waste. He was a devoted life-long brother to many in his numerous Masonic affiliations, including Mt. Lebanon Lodge #775 F&AM; Horseheads Old Oak Lodge #364; recipient of the Masonic Grand Masters Medalion; member of Corning Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Corning, NY; Elmira Chapter #42 Royal Arch Masons; Honorary Member of Cayuta Chapter #245 R.A.M.; Royal and Select Masters, Southern Tier Council #16 of Elmira; St. Omer's Commandery #19 Knights Templar; President of the Elmira Masonic Board of Directors; Kalurah Shrine Center, serving as past President and current Treasurer of the Southern Tier Shrine Club; member of the K.Y.C.H. Crusade Pryory #57; Cashmere Grotto #11; Royal Order of Jesters, Binghamton #16; Past Commander of Waverly Masonic War Vets Post #45; Charter member of the Southern Tier York Rite College #126 of Owego; Horseheads Chapter of O.E.S #423; Past Grand Sentinal of State of NY O. E. S.; Past Patron Harmony-Loyal O.E.S. #265; past and present member of Matrons and Patrons Assoc. District O.E.S. ; Past Royal Patron of Order of Amaranth Queen Fredricka Court #22; member of the Southport Kiwanis Club; Clarence R. Oliver Post #154 American Legion; member of Centenary United Methodist Church; Heisey Glass Collectors of America; and the Wheel Inn in Roaring Branch, PA.Family and friends will be invited to attend a Memorial Service at a later date to be announced in the Star Gazette.Arrangements have been entrusted to the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., Elmira.
