Age 78 of Elmira, NY, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 17, 2004 in the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.Ruth was born January 10, 1926 in Dunkirk, NY to the late Ethelbert and Carrie Altman Brown.She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Earl R. Fleming; daughters, Susan (Daniel) Smith Tripp of Elmira, Joyce Winton and fiancé Roy E. Reed of Elmira, and Barbara (David) Lord of Horseheads; grandchildren, Shane G. (Elizabeth) Smith of Buffalo, Meara Smith of Elmira, Erinn (James, who is stationed in Iraq) Hamilton of Millerton, PA, Roger (Nicole) Winton of Elmira, Connie (Richard) LaVere of Elmira, Mary (Shaun) Swarthout of Elmira Heights, Carrie Costello and fiancé Matthew Spencer of Victor, and Robert Lord of Horseheads; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jane Brown of Elmira Heights, Margaret (Carlton) Wolfe of Auburn, AL, Doris ?Betsy? Knight of Bradford, PA; and several nieces and nephews.Ruth was employed at both the Eclipse Plant and Remington Rand.She pursued many interests including knitting, crocheting, tatting lace, rug hooking, and counted cross-stitch.She dedicated years working on the genealogy of both the Brown and Fleming families, tracing them back to the American Revolution.Although she said she didn?t like animals, over the years she was the owner of 5 black cats.She was also dedicated to the Kodak Peregrine Falcons.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, with funeral held on Wednesday, April 21st at 12 PM. Rev.
