Ruth I. Goodenough

Age 98, formerly of West Church Street, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Bethany Manor, Horseheads, NY. She was born November 12, 1906 in Reading, PA, the daughter of the late Charles and Ada (Hinnershitz) Focht. Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband, Leroy Goodenough in 1982; daughter, Barbara Edwards; brother, Charles Focht; sister, Mary Elizabeth DeHart; grandsons, Stephen Edwards, Scott Strailey, and Stephen Lundy. She is survived by her beloved children; son, Charles Goodenough of Wind Gap, PA; daughters, Suzanne Strailey of Elmira, NY, Nancy (Archie) Cornell of Horseheads, NY, Mary Ann Van Horn of Pine City, NY, Marcia Kolla of Harleysville, PA, Alice (Brian) Conklin of Saugerties, NY; son-in-law, Donald Edwards of Sarasota, Fl; brother-in-law, Dennis Goodenough of Coudersport, PA; sisters-in-law, Frances Goodenough of Little Rock, AK, Beverly Eldridge of Coudersport, PA; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruth was a member of The Park Church and enjoyed singing in their choir. She was the first female to receive a scholarship at Penn State University. Ruth was the District President of the PTA, President and member of the Rotary Anns, President and member of the Monday Mother?s Club and a very active member of the SOROSIS Club. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Saturday, February 12, 2005 from 1 to 3 PM. Funeral Services celebrating Ruth?s life will be held there following the visitation. (3:00 PM) The Reverend Donald Rockwell will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Southern Tier Hospice, 11571 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830 in her memory.
