Was born August 11, 1932 in Mansfield, PA the daughter of the late Arnold R. and Mildred (Barnes) Sowers, passed away very unexpectedly on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA at the age of 78. Her first husband, Robert J. Baker, second husband, Raymond L. Scofield, special companion, Duane Cook and step-son, Stephen Scofield all preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Lola Baker of Sarasota, FL; beloved step-children, Wayne and Belinda Scofield of Hartford, NY; Susan and William Houston of Aurora, CO; along with 7 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren. In 1950, Ruth graduated from Southside High School with honors. She retired from the Southern Tier News Company as bookkeeper/office manager after 45 years of dedicated service. Upon her retirement, she became the proprietor of Tomorrow's Treasures. She enjoyed crafting and sewing and won many blue ribbons as she competed in many State Fairs. Her specialty was hand crafting "Raggedy Ann" Dolls. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services honoring her life will follow the visitation at 7 PM. The Reverend James Truax will celebrate Ruth's service. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery where Ruth will be laid to rest with her beloved Raymond at the convenience of her family.
