Age 88 died Wednesday evening, February 4, 2004 at The Loretto, Syracuse, NY, where she had resided since October 1998.Ruth was born in Plymouth, OH on May 11, 1915 to Mary and Percy Root.She graduated from Southern Seminary, Buena Vista, VA; Mount Ida School in Newton, MA; and Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, OH with a degree in business.In 1936 she married Charles Harlan Wheadon of Elmira, NY.They lived in Kansas City, MO and Buffalo, NY before moving to Elmira, where they raised four children.In 1963 they moved to Philadelphia, PA, where they lived until her husband retired in 1971 and they moved back to the Elmira area.Ruth was an active woman, enjoying gardening, and being outdoors.She was a gourmet cook, as well as being artistic, painting many beautiful oil paintings.She was also musically talented, singing in the Park Church choir and playing the piano.Ruth was also a member of the Elmira Junior League.Her son, Stephen, in March of 1995, her husband, Charles, in September of 1995, and her brother, Paul in 1966, predeceased her.Ruth is survived by her sons, Thomas of Stillwater, NY and David of Elmira, NY; daughter, Meg of Stillwater, NY; 3 daughters-in-law, Christine, Wendy, and Jill; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren, sister, Mim Baxter of Elmira, NY; and brother, Tom Root of Plymouth, OH.Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 11AM in the Park Church, Elmira, NY.Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.There will be no calling hours.Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com .
