Barnes, Sherman M. “Sherm” age 80 of Elmira, NY passed away Sunday, April 10th, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 21st, 1935 in Wells Township, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Norman and Lura (Warner) Barnes. Sherm is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene (Hoffman) Barnes; children: Kim (Tommy) Copp of Millerton, PA; Joseph (Nora) Barnes of Millerton, PA; Rusty (Heather) Barnes of Revere, MA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brother: Morton Barnes of Sayre, PA; sister: Norma Braman of Marathon, NY; brother: John Barnes of Gillett, PA. Sherm retired from Dalrymple Sand and Gravel after many years of heavy equipment operation. He was a F. & A. M. of Masonic Lodge #373 of Tioga, PA, a veteran of the Marine Corp, and a devoted member of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His intoxicating sense of humor made everyone around him feel loved. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, 1238 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, NY Saturday, April 16th, 2016 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM. Memorial Services celebrating Sherman Barnes’ life will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 2:00PM. Reverend William Vallet will officiate.
