Shirley Marie Forrest, 87, of Granville Summit, PA, entered the presence of her Lord on September 9, 2025.
Born in Elmira, NY, Shirley was the second child of James and Naomi (Porter) Forrest. She graduated as salutatorian of Troy High School’s Class of 1955 and went on to earn her nursing degree at Arnot-Ogden in 1958. She later completed a double Master’s degree in Education and Nursing from Syracuse University.
Shirley dedicated more than 40 years of her career to Arnot-Ogden Hospital, where she served first as Obstetrics Coordinator and later as Director of Nursing. She taught childbirth and parenting classes at the hospital, and helped to pioneer the neo-natal department leaving a lasting impact on countless families. Alongside her hospital work, she also taught obstetrics at Corning Community College and Elmira College, where she was admired as a skilled educator and compassionate mentor. Even after retiring from the hospital, Shirley continued teaching at Elmira College until 2022.
Beyond her professional life, Shirley loved traveling and enjoyed many ocean cruises and international trips. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Troy and participated in several mission trips to the Dominican Republic where she used her nursing expertise to serve those in need and share her faith.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James Forrest, Jr., and David Forrest; sisters Lorraine Geiger and Donna Brass; and nephew, Daniel Stroud.
She is survived by her sisters Eunice Wilston and Pearl Stroud; sister-in-law Sally Forrest; brother-in-law Richard Brass; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She held a special bond with her great-nieces and nephews, Kayla, Carlee, Seth and Ethan.
Friends and family are invited to First Baptist Church of Troy, 579 Canton Street in Troy, PA for a visitation on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 beginning at 10:00 AM until her funeral service begins at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest privately at the convenience of the family.

Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her family, who will remember her quiet presence, warm laughter, and beautiful smile.
