JOHNS, Shirley (Lofstrom)Of Elmira, NY 76, of Elmira, NY, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at El Cor Heath Services Horseheads, NY.She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin (Barney) Johns, in 1975.Born in Elmira, on October 12, 1931, she was the only child of the late Jane (Yeager) and Willard Lofstrom.Shirley is survived by sons, Marvin "Tracy" Johns of Lynwood, WA; Jeffrey Scott (Andrea) Johns; grandchildren Erik and Heather Johns, all of Hollis, NH; cousins Raymond Lofstrom, Pine Valley, NY; Joanne Farmer, Dayton, OH; Gail Lee, Williamsburg, VA; and Richard Roberts, Georgetown, TX; Shirley was also fortunate to have a devoted friend and caregiver, Gail H. Dwyer, as well as close friends Priscilla (Percy) Keefe and Judy Saxton.She attended local schools, graduating from Elmira Free Academy in 1949.For many years she was employed at the Elmira Bowling Center, retiring from the Steele Memorial Library as Administrative Assistant after 19 ½ years.She was a longstanding member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Past President and member, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #941 Elmira, and American Legion Auxiliary Post #154, Elmira Heights.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY 14904 on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held there following the visitation at 7:00 PM. The Reverend Abigail Zang-Hoffman of Bethany Lutheran Church will officiate.Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
