Shirley J. Wood

Of Camden Avenue, Horseheads, NY was born August 7, 1923 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Francis and Lucille (Campbell) Wandell. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at St. Josephs Hospital with her family by her side at the age of 83. On February 1, 1944, Shirley married Earl L. Wood; prior to his death on August 31, 2002 they celebrated 58 wonderful years of life and love together. Her son-in-law, Kent Spencer also predeceased her. She is survived by her four sons, and daughter-in-laws, Larry and Joyce Wood, Tom and Judy Wood, Dave and Carol Wood all of Horseheads, NY; Steve and Beth Wood of Elmira, NY; two daughters, Linda (William) Nichols of Horseheads, NY; Diane Spencer of Elmira, NY; brothers, Richard (Dorothy) Wandell of Elmira, NY; Gary (Yolanda) Wandell of Eugene, OR; along with 11 much loved grandchildren and several adored great grandchildren. Shirley will always be remembered for her outstanding peanut butter fudge, her baking and cooking. She retired from Thomas & Betts Corp. after several years of dedicated service. She loved and lived for her children and grandchildren and they will deeply miss her greatly. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services celebrating her life will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family in the Maple Grove Cemetery Horseheads, NY.
