Sophie Peters, 90, formerly of Pine City, went to her eternal peace on Wednesday, April 8.She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lee; parents, George and Katharine;sisters, Anna Riker, Mary Sandberg, and Helen Wilson; and grandson, Lee Tuma.Sophie is survived by her children, Sharon (Jim) Emmick, Ronald (Vivian) Peters,Michael (Stephanie) Peters, Janet (Rana) Peters, Jane (Jeffery) Jack; grandchildren,Mandy and Jeffery (Aubrie) Jack, David (Krista) Tuma Jr., Carrie (Markedis) Williams,Christopher (Emily) Tuma, Karl Lewis, Michael (Melissa) Peters, Steven Peters, Joshua(Corey) Peters, Melissa (Chad) Hackmann, Katharine Peters, Brian (Kerry) Peters; 22 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In our eyes our mom was the World's Greatest mom, homemaker, cook, nurse, everything. We were fortunate to have tasted the very best apple pie, made by our mom Sophie. She was a huge presence in all of our lives.She devoted her life to home and family. Her life ethic, same as our dad's, was to be productive, to be useful, to make a difference. She did make a difference in all of our lives. She struggled valiantly for years to keep walking, until she could no longer.She was courageous through many struggles in life. The daughter of Ukrainian immigrants, she was always proud of her heritage, and carried on those traditions of special foods and celebrations. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave, Elmira, NY 14904 on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM, Father John DeSocio will officiate. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.We extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Woodbrook and to St. Joseph's Hospital for their kindness to our mom.
