January 10, 1940 — June 11, 2003

Age 63, passed away very unexpectedly Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born January 10, 1940 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Daniel and Sophie (Smietana) Manns. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Clifton Inscho. He is survived by his loving children, Mark (Karen) Manns of Columbus, GA; Kathleen (Al) Malloy and Kristine Manns (Tom Whispel) both of Elmira, NY; and their mother, Patricia Manns also of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Heather Malloy and Conner Malloy of Elmira, NY; Zachary Eickholt-Manns of Escondido, CA; step-grandchildren, William, Joshua and Jonathan Batten of Elmira, NY; mother-in-law, Doris Inscho of Pine City, NY; brothers and sisters, Rita (Lou) Rambino, Dorothy Smith, David (Patricia) Manns, Kathleen (fiancée Mike) Manns all of Buffalo, NY; Elizabeth (Robert) King of Florida; Daniel (Gloria) Manns of Liverpool, NY; aunt Mary Smietana of Cheektowago, NY; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. ?Ted? as he was affectionately known, was a Veteran of the United States Navy proudly serving 2 tours during Viet Nam. He retired from the US Navy as a Chief Quartermaster after 20 dedicated years of service in December of 1978. ?Ted? also retired from the Elmira City School District as a Head Custodian at Booth School June 24, 2002 after 20 years of faithful service. He received numerous honors while severing in the US Navy including the Navy Achievement Medal (with Combat V). He was an avid bowler at the Dixie Lanes in Elmira and was a great NASCAR enthusiast and fan of the late Dale Earnhardt. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Sunday, June 15, 2003 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM. A Memorial Service celebrating ?Ted?s? life and honoring his memory will be held there following the visitation at 1:00 PM. His friend, Deacon George Welch will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Manns at the funeral home by the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be directed to the Dixie Bowling Lanes Youth League 1196 Broadway Street Elmira, NY 14904.A ?Candle of Remembrance? may be left for the family at www.olthof.com.
