Thomas John Walter

Age 83, of Caton, NY passed away on Friday, February 25, 2005 at Bethany Manor, Horseheads.He was born on November 25, 1921, the son of Thad and Lucy Jane (Reynolds) Walter.His beloved wife of 55 years, the former Nancy Elizabeth Fink, passed away in 1999.John is survived by three children; John (?Ren?), David, and Beth (Walter) Honadle; son-in-law, George Honadle; grandson, Jeff Honadle.He and his wife ran the Holland & Johnson dry cleaning business in downtown Elmira (a business started by his mother in 1912) for three decades.In 1974 the business, a casualty of the flood of 1972, was closed. After that John and Nancy went into the real estate profession with John becoming a certified real estate appraiser, a second career he pursued for two decades.A graduate of Elmira Free Academy, John attended Syracuse University before returning to Elmira to run the family business during World War II.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Monday, February 28, 2005 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.Funeral services will be conducted privately. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
