Of Standish Street Elmira, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family at the age of 87. Twila was born April 17, 1917 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Corey and Blanche (Schenck) Hart. She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Shirley (Ralph) Thomas of Warwick, RI; Larry Cook, Mary (Burdette) Hall, Sharon (Donnie) Ellis all of Elmira, NY; Albert (Dorothy) Cook of Auburn, NY; Brenda (Norman) Brinck of Chesapeake, VA; 21 grandchildren and families, 25 great grandchildren and families, 6 great great grandchildren, sisters, Marlene (Ken) Maynard and Phyllis Frasier, along with several nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. Twila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert ?Jim? Cook Sr.; daughter, Nancy (Cook) Gates; son, Herbert ?Jim? Cook Jr.; sisters, June Knode, Gladys Morris; brothers, Lewis, Donald, Corey, Edwin and Charles ?Bob? Hart. Twila dedicated the George M. Diven School back in 1930 at the age of 13 with a poem of each initial of the school?s name. Her name is in the cornerstone of the building. Twila was and avid New York Yankees fan and BINGO player. Twila was known for all of her jokes and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held there at the conclusion of the visitation. (2:00 PM) Captain John P. Cornelius will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Salvation Army Safe House 414 Lake Street Elmira, NY 14901 or to the American Cancer Society P. O. Box # 7 East Syracuse, NY 13057.
