Velma E. Jessup

Jessup, Velma E. age 96 long time resident of Pine City passed away after an extended illness Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Velma was the daughter of the late Thurlow and Harriet Whitman. She was born February 12th, 1916 in Ithaca, NY. She was predeceased by her husband George Jessup in 1988. Surviving her is her only son and daughter in law: Richard and Donna Jessup of Horseheads, NY; Grandson: Matthew (Kristy) Jessup of Binghamton, NY; Great Granddaughter: Ava . Sisters: Mary Stiles of Tully, NY, Jean (Jim) Ryerson of East Aurora, NY; Brothers: James “Kel” Whitman of Nivone, FL .and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband George and parents Velma was predeceased by her Brother Robert and Sister E. Grace Whitman. Velma will always be known for her thoughtfulness. She was always baking something for someone or visiting someone in need of company. She kept her days filled with making a difference in someone’s life. She was very active at the Westside United Methodist Church and Samaritan Center. She thoroughly enjoyed thinking of others.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue Elmira, NY, 2012 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 3:00PM. The Reverend Vincent Howell will officiate. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing may make memorials in Velma’s name to the Memorial Fund, at the Westside United Methodist Church.
