Virginia M. Messing

Was born October 28, 1921 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Francis L. and Blanche E. (VanFleet) Vosburgh passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2007 at St. Josephs Hospital at the age of 85. Her first husband, Lincoln Whittaker and second husband, Charles Messing predeceased her. She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Crowningshield of Erin, NY; Judy and Bill Rice of Breesport, NY; beloved grandchildren, Shawn Crowningshield, Stacie (Chad) Lynch; much-loved great granddaughter, Krystiana Lynch; brother, Rexford Vosburgh of East Rochester, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Vosie or Bunnie, as she was affectionately known, was a 70-year member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She retired from Doctor Phillip and Herzogs office after several dedicated years of service as a registered nurse. She greatly enjoyed square dancing with Charles Messing. Her love for the performing arts was exceptional. The Symphony Series at the Clemens Center along with Common Time, which she encouraged her daughters to participate in, were among her favorites. Her great sense of humor will be missed, but not forgotten, especially by her sons-in-laws. Family and friends will gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904 on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services honoring her life will be held there on Thursday, at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Susan Husted will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
