W. Larry Shanks

Age 71, passed away in peace on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Larry was the son of the late George and Janet (Martin) Shanks and was born October 23, 1937 in Seattle, WA. He is survived by his life companion, Dawn Shanks of Southport, NY; daughters, Janelle (Lloyd) Campbell of Apalachin, NY; Shelly (Tom) Barcomb of Horseheads, NY; Jill Lipke (Bert McDowell) of Saginaw, TX; Amy (Jerry) Tatman of Benbrook, TX; son, Calvin Shanks of Southport, NY; grandchildren, Bryan (Ashley), Courtney, Troy, Alex, Skyler and Summer; great granddaughter, Mia; sister, Sherry (Richard) Parsons of Wellsburg, NY; brothers, Rodney W. Shanks of Idaho; George B. (Bonnie) Shanks also of Idaho; brother-in-law, Richard (Marilyn) Lemoncelli of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces and nephews; former wife, Julie Renko Shanks of Southport, NY. In addition to his parents, George and Janet, Larry is also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Jean Shanks, son-in-law, Jamey Tatman; in-laws, Peter A. (Winifred) Lemoncelli and Janet Renko. Larry was a true people person. He simply loved people. A simple trip to the store would take hours. He was a renowned automobile salesman in the Elmira area, working at many dealerships. Children of all ages held a large place in Larry's heart. He loved to play golf and was a racing enthusiast. He also enjoyed cooking and sitting by the pool. Above all else, Larry loved his family. Nothing was more important to him than his family. His family will receive relatives and friends at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A celebration of Larry's life will follow the visitation at 7 PM. Lay Pastor John P. Knapp will officiate. Memorial donations may be directed to a charity of one's choice in his memory.
