Walter Cook

Age 93, lifetime member of the Southport Community, passed away Sunday, August 7th, 2011 at the St. Josephs Hospital. He is the son of the late John H. and Clara (Buchanan) Cook, born December 9th, 1917 in Pine City. Surviving are his son and daughter in law; Bill and Sue Cook of Pine City and Port Charlotte, FL;grandchildren; Christine Terpstra of TN, Suzie Cooklin of Elmira, Eric Woodyard ofElmira, Brian Cook of Port Charlotte, FL; great grandchildren; Nicole (Javier) Medina of CA, Brandon Cooklin of Elmira, Justin (Jessica) Greene of TN; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Cookie is predeceased by his loving wife Rita and his daughter Joni.Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NYon Wednesday, August 10th, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held there Thursday, August 11th, 2011 at 11:00AM. The Reverend Horace Stoddard will officiate. Walter was a Southport Community Icon whom everyone loved. He was a devoted family man that carried a strong work ethic.He devoted most of his working life to the Dalrymple Corporations and family, as the supervisorof their concrete division for over 45 years. Cookie was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He devoted much of his time helping various sportsmen clubs and organizations. Cookie was a born farmer and gardener, always devoted much of his day keeping up with his garden and relaxing in his garage (COOKIE'S LOUNGE) with a friend or two.In Lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Cookie's name to the Pine City Baptist Church, 1516 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, NY 14871.
