Wayne Carl Fenton, 76, of Elmira, NY passed away on October 14, 2024 while surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was born November 16, 1947 to Walter and Eleanor (Miller) Fenton. He was a 1967 graduate of Southside High School, and went on to serve in the US Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Wayne was employed by the Elmira City School District for more than 30 years, retiring in 2010.
He is survived by: Betty, his beloved wife of 47 years; his three sons - Wayne (Becky), Matthew (Hope), and Michael (Nicolette); his grandchildren, the loves of his life - Nathan, Addie, Max, and Peyton; his sister Rita; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son.
Wayne was an avid golfer, liked to bowl, and played big ball in Pine City for many years. He also coached his boys in baseball and basketball when they were young; he was a very enthusiastic coach!
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses, doctors, and nurse practitioners who cared for Wayne at the Corning Cancer Center over the past few years, and you know who you are! Thank you doesn't seem to be enough. Also a great big thank you to Bonnie from CareFirst, a wonderful lady!
His family will miss him more than you can imagine. He fought a long, courageous battle to the end, and he is now at peace.
