Age 89, formerly of 300 S. Main Street Apt. # 3C-10, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2003, peacefully at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads, NY. He was born March 16, 1914 in St. Benedict, PA the son of the late William S. and Catherine (Barr) Rennie Sr. He is survived by his twin sister, Kay Marks of Elmira, NY; sister, Ruth Terwilliger also of Elmira, NY; sister-in-law, Marion Rennie of Marion, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. ?Bill? as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by sisters, Agnes Stuart, Beth Anderson, Wilma Bauman and Isabel Baker; brother, Thomas Rennie. ?Bill? proudly served as Chief Petty officer in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946. He retired from the IRS of Pennsylvania as unit manager after several years of faithful and dedicated service. This Elmira resident invented a forerunner to such high-tech video games as Playstation and Nintendo. In the late 50?s, ?Bill? invented a golf board game, patented it, and got an endorsement from none other than the legendary Arnold Palmer. Arnold Palmer Family Golf Club was the first golf game on the toy and novelty market, featuring a foldout course, with the outcomes on the course decided by rolling sets of dice. This was Palmer?s first endorsement. Rennie even sent the game to then-President Dwight Eisenhower who responded with a letter thanking ?Bill? for entertaining his grandchildren. At his request there will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to celebrate ?Bill?s? life on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 7:00 PM. The Reverend W. David Ashby will officiate. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A ?Candle of Remembrance? may be left for the family at www.olthof.com.
