Age 75, was born April 11, 1937 in Wilmont, PA the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Mathews Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 27, 2012 with his loving and devoted family at his side. He was also preceded in death by his son, William Mathews Jr.; grandson, Ryan John Wandell; sister, Nellie Mathews; brothers, George Jr., Robert and James Mathews. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Harriet (Westbrook) Mathews; Nicholas Francisco, raised as a son; extra special granddaughter, Tanya (Craig Jr.) Hutchings of Elmira; beloved children, Elizabeth (David) Belloma of Elmira; Alberta (Paul) Wandell of NC; Pamela (Ed) Francisco of Elmira; grandchildren, David (Missy) Belloma Jr. of AZ; Steven (Kelly) Belloma, Wally (Jodi) Belloma all of Elmira; Paul (Mandy) Wandell of NC; Eric (Courtney) Wandell of NC; Jordan Wandell of Elmira; Sarah Wandell of OH; John Wandell of NC; Jacqueline Rodriguez of Elmira; Nicole (Tony) Lamb of Elmira; 22 great grandchildren brothers and sisters: Elmer (Annie) Mathews, Gladys (Bob) Rice, Alice (Lee) Rankin, Richard (Mary) Mathews, Georganna (Harold) Pond, Leona Refinburg, Chuck (Pat) Mathews and Walt Mathews; brother and sister-in-laws: Barb (Tom) Burlew and Loretta (Steve) Burgett; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by special friends, Bruce Francisco, Richard (Peg) Northrup and Lynn (Doris) Struzinsky. Bill retired from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after several years of dedicated service as an orderly in the OR. Bill also served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. Bill leaves a lasting legacy of love behind and how lucky we were to be so loved! Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services celebrating his life and honoring his memory will be held there on Tuesday, July 31st at 10:00 AM. His son-in-law, Ed Francisco will officiate.
