Barbara M Hoyt

Age 66, of Elmira, N.Y., passed away, Sunday, January 19th, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her three sons as she took her last breathe and passed to a better place. Barbara was born in Germany on September 29th 1947, and moved to Elmira in 1 967 where she raised three sons. She was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Kleikamp and father Martin Christopheries of Germany. She is survived by her sons; Robert M. Burns (Pamela) and Steven A. Burns all of Elmira, NY, Thomas J. Burns (Sandra) of Penfield, NY, Sister-in-law; Carol Burns of Rochester, NY. She was a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren; Kristen Burns, Courtney Burns, Ethan Burns, Andrew Burns, Victoria Burns, and Jayden Burns, and her beloved dog; Buster. Barbara worked for the Elmira City School District for 3 1 years and loved working with children. During her years with the school district, working in several schools, she made many friends who supported her until her passing. It was Barb's wish that all her friends, family, and care givers know how much she appreciated their love and support during her illness. Remember Barb as a caring person that always had a smile on her face and a funny story to tell. 11 was Barb's wishes for the family to have a private ceremony. She will be laid to rest next to her mother at the Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to CareFirst formerly known as Southern Tier Hospice or the local SPCA.
