Melvin Leroy Sprague

Melvin L. (Bucky, Mel) Sprague, Jr.Age 78Of Elmira, NY. Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Sprague, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Belle (Seymour) Sprague, his children, son David L. (wife Vicki) Sprague, daughters, Terry M. Sprague, Ginger A. Sprague, and Christine T. L. (husband, Robert) Leonard; grandchildren, David L. (wife, Gabrielle) Sprague Jr., Heather L. (husband, Christopher) Ford, Robert Leonard II. Diana Leonard, Meagan Green; great grandchildren, Nicholas Sprague and Ryan Ford; also many nieces and nephews. His son Melvin L. Sprague III predeceased him. Melvin served in the United States Marine Corp in 1951 to 1953, was a Police Officer with the Elmira Police Department and was a retired Corrections Officer with the New York State Department of Corrections. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 154. Throughout his life Melvin enjoyed numerous activities, but the most important time of his life was the time spent with his family. The family will receive friends on Saturday February 6, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, with Funeral and Committal service there Saturday at 4:00 PM. Interment will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, at the convenience of the family.A "Candle of Remembrance" may be left for the family in Obituaries atwww.olthof.com.
