June 26, 1928 — November 14, 2001

Mathews, Phyllis Rinker age 73of Halderman Hollow Rd. Elmira, NY, passed peacefully Wednesday, November 14th, 2001 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Phyllis was the beloved daughter of the late Benjamin and Myrtle Moore Rinker, born the 26th day of June 1928 in Elmira. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Edgar Mathews. Together they shared a wonderful life. Phyllis was the mother of six children, Charlene Montgomery of Elmira, Karen Reynolds of Vancouver, Washington, Edwin Mathews of Lowman, NY, Ben Mathews of Horseheads, NY and Jan Luecken of Wasilla, Alaska; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren which she loved and cherished. Phyllis is also survived by her sister, Millie Furman and brother Richard Rinker. She is predeceased by her son, Staff Sgt. Stanley Mathews and sister Doris Swhartout. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY, Friday, November 16th, 2001, 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Funeral services will be held there Saturday, November 17th, 2001 at 10:00am. The Reverend Bruce Snyder will officiate. Graveside committal prayers will be shared in the Woodlawn Cemetery following the funeral services.Phyllis worked for Fairway Springs and the Ann Page Plant.Sheattended the First Baptist Church of Horseheads. Phyllis loved the time she spent with all her wonderful friends at the Paramount Lanes Tuesday Morning Women?s Bowling League.People who knew Phyllis best will never forget the color she added to their lives with the beautiful flowers she loved to grow from her heart.Crocheting was another one of Phyllis?s arts, creating something from nothing to warm a child?s hand or help cure the common cold. She wanted to help all. She will always be missed, but her kindness will continue to give through her family left behind. Memorials may be made in Phyllis?s name to the charity of one?s choice.
