Sidney "Sid" C. Shepherd

Shepherd, Sidney C. Jr. “Sid” age 86 lifelong member of the Pine City community passed away Tuesday, Sidney C. and Okah (Schneck) Shepherd.Surviving him is his loving wife and friend of 58 years Beverly (Appleman) Shepherd of Pine City; Son: Marc (Julie) Shepherd of Pine City, NY, Daughters Michelle (Duane) Saxton of Pine City, NY; Marcie (Mark) Hamilton of Victor, NY; Marty (Kathy) Shepherd of Horseheads, NY; Grandchildren:Kirsten(Will) Reeve, Drew Shepherd, Megan (Matt) Wukovitz, Kyle Saxton, Ellie and Mollie Hamilton, Lauren, Stephanie, and Matthew Shepherd; Great grandson: Charlie “Pete” Wukovitz. In addition to his parents, Sid is predeceased by his sister Arlene Hurst. He was a graduate of Southside High School class of 1942 attended Vaughn College in Long Island for Aeronautical Engineering and Elmira College. He was a United States Army Veteran whom proudly served his country during World War II. During the war Sid served with the 65th Field Hospital in Europe. His unit earned three battle stars and provided medical services at the battle of the Bulge and was proud to be a member of the Detached Service with the 172nd Medical Battalion following Gen. Patton. After the war he worked for NYSEG and was a welder for Schweizer Aircraft while attending night school at Elmira College.In 1953, Sid went into business with his mother and father operating Shepherd’s Food Market, which is still operated today in Pine City by his son Marc. He was a charter member of the Pine City Sportsmen Club, Member of the Pine City Fire Department, Southport Variance Committee.Sid loved his family and the many friends he made through his lifetime. He was an avid hunter and fishermen who loved golf. His contagious laugh and firm handshake will always be missed. Private family funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
