Age 78, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Bement); daughter, Susan (Bruce) Bennett of Stafford, VA; sons, Edward (Peg) of Elmira; Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Horseheads; grandchildren, Daniel (Sabrina) Bennett of Ruther Glen, VA; Julie (David) Loving of Fredericksburg, VA; Megan and Amanda Greatsinger of Horseheads, NY; step-grandchildren, Joshua Woodruff of Plainville, CT; Sara (Pete) Marshall of Canton, MA; great grandchildren, Caitlynn Bennett of Fredericksburg, VA; Mathew and Noah Loving of Fredericksburg, VA; step-great grandchildren, Brendan and Ava Marshall of Canton, MA; brother, James (Helen) Greatsinger of Bethlehem, PA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Louise Bement of Lansing, NY; John and Donna Bement of Englewood, FL; Thomas and Betty Bement of Painted Post, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman until his illness forced him to give them up. He was employed at Anchor Glass, formerly Thatcher Glass for 35 years. He was a member of the TMC Rod & Gun club for many years. He was also a member of the Pine City Volunteer Fire Department and a life-member of the Webb Mills Volunteer Fire Department. Bill was also a member of the New York National Guard. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. His sister-in-law, the Reverend Betty Bement will celebrate Bill's services. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of his family in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
